One Week Laterā€¦

Itā€™s been a full week since Appleā€™s WWDC Keynote and I still find it hard to believe they actually announced a mixed-reality headset coming ā€œearly next year.ā€ Iā€™m still formulating my thoughts on Apple Vision Pro, and considering I wonā€™t be able to actually try one for many months, Iā€™ll refer you to some of my favorite takes:

Overall, the technology of Apple Vision Pro looks incredible, and I would sure love to try watching a movie on a massive virtual screen floating over a lake. But the real story will be what developers and game makers build for this new platform of Spatial Computing. Rest assured, you will be hearing a lot about Apple Vision Pro over the next year.

iOS 17 and Updates to iPad

While Apple Vision Pro has stolen much of the limelight, Apple also announced significant updates to their iPhone, iPad, and macOS operating systems. Some of my favorite new features include:

  • Contact Posters and NameDrop

  • Interactive widgest, including HomeKit

  • Widgets on the Desktop for macOS

  • Apple Podcasts app updates

  • Many Messages updates

  • Webcam support on iPad (!)

Summer Movies Outside

If you have WWDC fatigue, or just looking for new ways to have fun this summer, might I encourage an outdoor movie! When we moved into our new house, one of the fun evening activities was to setup a screen by the pool and project a movie, while AirPlaying sound to the Sonos patio speakers.

This summer I got to upgrade that experience with two projector review units: the Formovie Dice projector, and XGIMI Halo+. Both are battery-powered projectors that have decent built-in speakers, plus Android TV so you donā€™t need any other device to stream a movie (besides the screen of course).
